Maintaining horses' health –
one of our core competences

Andrea Engeler-Bading and her skilful team support the well-being of horses/sport horses in collaboration with experienced veterinarians. Here at Fehmbusch we utilise state-of-the-art equipment - on a scale unparalleled in the area of the Luhmühlen "Riding Mecca", or indeed anywhere in Northern Germany. All therapy services are carried out in accordance with a careful diagnosis and the requirements of the horses at livery with us or those simply visiting for treatment.

Every horse requiring therapy needs individual treatment tailored to suit its condition, constitution, temperament and character. We develop a comprehensive training plan and use modern equipment such as our aquatrainer, cold water machines and treadmills with vibration plates, which enable gentle and controlled walker exercises for the development of muscles and ligaments, as well as quicker recovery from injuries. In consultation with veterinarians, we create a treatment plan which forms the basis for comprehensive rehabilitation and regeneration.

You can find out more about us and the services we offer at fehmbusch.de. We look forward to your enquiry and are always happy to arrange a personal meeting.

Bein & Technik

Hofmag

The Hofmag device generates short, high intensity pulsating magnetic fields. PEMF is known to be able to stimulate the cell membranes encouraging their natural self-healing mechanisms. Cell membranes stretch and relax with each pulse leading to accelerated healing, something a static magnet couldn’t achieve.
The pulsed field penetrates inflamed tissues, muscles and joints, influencing the electromagnetic charge of the cells. The result is a complete therapeutic, accelerated healing process! (Source: hofmagtherapy.eu)

Mode of operation

  • Pulsed magnetic field therapy (PEMF)
  • Electromagnetic impulses normalise disturbed cell functions and promote the healing process
  • Improved circulation increases oxygen supply to the cells
  • Effect reaches up to 20 cm body depth
  • Doping free – use at competitions permitted

Areas of application

  • Pain therapy at source
  • Regeneration
  • Stimulation of fasciae and muscles
  • Bone and wound healing
  • Laminitis

Mode of action

  • Improvement of metabolism
  • Acceleration of cell regeneration
  • Reduction of inflammation and pain
  • Improvement of immune system

Dry salt therapy (halotherapy)

For more than 1000 years, the anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties of salt have been recognised and the beneficial effects appreciated - be it through stimulating coastal climates, salt caves or bathing in the Dead Sea. Halotherapy makes good use of all these experiences.

In contrast to other methods, such as brine nebulisers or vaporisers, the dry salt inhalation process allows the horse to inhale salt in its pure, dry form as particulate matter. The salt is micronised in a special procedure and released into the air breathed by the horses as dry aerosol in very fine particles (see distribution table). To achieve an optimum therapeutic effect, the salt must be as dry as possible. This is the only way to ensure that the salt particles can penetrate deep and reach the alveoli in order to loosen and absorb the maximum amount of mucus, dirt particles and germs. Particles that have already been moistened by nebulisers or evaporators only have this property to a limited extent and in some cases do not reach the deepest ramifications at all, quite apart from the fact that horses have a tendency to breathe only superficially in mist that is too dense.

However, the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects of dry salt therapy are not limited to the respiratory organs, but are also beneficial for the skin. It also indirectly affects the immune system and leads to improved lung function - and a consequently positive effect on training - with its decongestive/relaxing effect.

Mode of operation

  • Dry aerosol with very fine salt particles (0.3 - 5 µm)
  • Extremely small salt particles penetrate the lungs and reach the alveoli (as particulate matter does)
  • Ionisation ensures constant level of salt particle concentration in the air during treatment
  • Anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect
  • Optimal loosening of mucus, as salt is dry and has not yet been dissolved in water
  • Also effective for skin conditions. The salt settles on the skin, reducing the occurrence of microorganisms to a significant extent
  • Completely doping-free

Areas of application

  • Coughing
  • Chronic inflammation of the upper and lower respiratory tracts
  • Deep-seated and stubborn mucus
  • Recurrent airway obstruction (broken wind)
  • Allergies
  • Skin infections / eczema / cracked heels / fungi
  • Disruption of the immune system
  • Activation of lymph activity
  • Improvement of lung function with enhanced training performance
  • Prophylaxis and wellness
  • And much more.

Treatment procedure

  • Duration of stay in the salt chamber c. 45 minutes
  • Followed by controlled movement (important!)
  • Minimum: 3 treatments within 2 days
  • Maximum: 15 treatments within 10 days
  • For horses at livery or visiting

Measuring of dust concentration
(Therapy chamber with a volume of c. 24 m3)

Initial measurement

Particle size Particle concentration
< 2,5μm 14,4 μg/m3
< 10μm 39,6 μg/m3

After 5 min runtime

Particle size Particle concentration
< 2,5μm 761,5 μg/m3
< 10μm 1999 μg/m3

After 10 min runtime

Particle size Particle concentration
< 2,5μm 999,9 μg/m3
< 10μm 1999 μg/m3

After 15 min runtime

Particle size Particle concentration
< 2,5μm 999,9 μg/m3
< 10μm 1999 μg/m3

This maximum value is maintained up to the end of the therapy session after 45 min.
